F-3 Business and industry

The Business and Industry Forum, co organised by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in partnership with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and the World Energy Council (WEC) will bring together global business representatives, intergovernmental leaders and government representatives to discuss how the Global Framework for Climate Services resulting from WCC-3 can help companies to benefit from enhanced climate services and better accessibility to climate information. In addition, participants will also discuss and assess the status of the UNFCCC climate change negotiations three months before COP 15 in Copenhagen and explore partnership approaches to deal with the climate change challenge.
The Forum will feature a roundtable discussion to exchange experiences and needs for climate information services which help companies better understand and adapt to climate change impacts. Companies can share their strategies for coping with the changing climate and climate variability and the resulting risks and opportunities. In addition, participants will also discuss and assess the status of the UNFCCC climate change negotiations three months before COP 15 in Copenhagen and explore the opportunities and potential for public-private partnerships.

Juan Gonzalez-Valero, Head of Corporate Responsibility, Syngenta

Juan has been leading the corporate responsibility framework for Syngenta since early 2006. He is responsible for setting the company’s CR agenda and ensures its implementation within the different business functions. He is the secretary of the Syngenta Corporate Responsibility Panel, the senior executive body that reviews and advises on CR policy, priorities and reporting.
Before concentrating on Corporate Responsibility, Juan was responsible for Sustainable Use and Stewardship in Europe and Global. This involved integrating sustainable agriculture and product stewardship programs into the regional business strategies. He joined the company in 1990 holding several global leadership positions in Environmental Sciences and Risk Assessment across Europe and the USA.
Juan holds a Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Hamburg where his research focused on marine ecology and environmental toxicology
